Please respond to two prompts using your sandwich model as a guide. I am looking for you to construct organized paragraphs and organized arguments.

9th Grade:

No official homework! Work on your primary source note cards or spend this time reviewing vocabulary!

7th and 8th grade homework due Tuesday, OCtober 30

7th Grade:

1) Actively read chapter 8

2) Review for essay test (which is on Thursday). Review the 7 questions that we put up on the board as a class.

3) Write your one sample paragraph (from the questions we placed on the board). Pay attention to creating a clear topic sentence and using clear evidence from the text to support your argument.

8th Grade:

1) Notebook check (make sure all work is organized into dividers).

2) Complete your three works cited cards (and bring them into class).

3) Read chapter 8 (actively)

6th and 9th Grade homework due Monday, October 29th

6th Grade:

Please read (and mark in the text) chapters 9-12 (pages 74-104). Also, be sure to bring your _Old Yeller_ text to class, AND organize your notebook if you have not done so already!

9th Grade:

1) Prepare for your first graded notebook check (make sure you have organized your notebook into various topics that work for you).

2) 35 note card check is on Monday

3) Create an outline for your first in-class essay on the poem of your choice. Remember, your outline may only include your thesis argument, your three topic sentences, evidence pieces and analysis.

7th and 8th Homework due Tuesday, October 23rd

7th Grade:

-Actively read chapter 7. Remember to mark specific moments in the Hero's Quest, as well as moments where you notice Tolkien referencing FATE, Destiny, chance or luck. Do you notice Bilbo experiencing any agency?

8th Grade:

- Finish reading chapter 7

- Come to class with your three articles printed off the internet about your chosen "hero" for the research paper. Also, bring NOTECARDS to class, as we will begin working on Works Cited Pages and note taking practices on Tuesday. To receive full homework credit for the day, you must have your three articles, with their websites clearly marked on them AND blank note cards.

6th and 9th homework due Monday, October 22

6th Grade:

- Organize your notebook into sections and make sure all paper is sorted, hole-punched and filed away... in other words, prepare for your notebook check (shake down!). :-)

- Read chapter 7 in _Old Yeller_ actively... continue to mark where you see Travis changing or experiencing conflicts.

9th Grade:

- Finish up your "Out, Out--" poetry responses (although I believe you have all finished theses)

-Study for your vocabulary quiz (lists 1-5). Remember, the format this week will be just like the very first quiz that you took (you will not be writing sentences. Instead, you will be filling in the blanks). Also, remember to review comma rule "A," although by this point, you should feel very confident using this comma rule correctly.

6th and 9th grade homework due Thursday, October 18

6th Grade:

-Grammar and comma "A" rule test! Be sure to know your nine parts of speech, and be SURE you know where to place an A rule comma! Study!!!

9th Grade:

- 25 note card check on Thursday!

- Please bring in the ten cards for vocabulary list 5 (quiz will be this coming Monday).

7th and 8th grade homework due Wednesday, October 17

7th Grade:

- Please complete journal entry number three (a practice essay answer for the upcoming essay test in a few weeks): "Please characterize Tolkien's style in the novel, _The Hobbit_." This should take you no more than 20 minutes, but be clear in your arguments and provide specific examples from the text (no quotations required).

-Work at least 20 minutes on your Plot Map.

8th Grade:

-Finish reading chapter 6.

-Complete journal entry number three.

-WOrk on plot map!

Actively read pages 61-99 (chapters 4 and 5).

8th Grade only:

Please bring in your _Eats, Shoots and Leaves_ book on Monday.

6th and 9th grade homework due October 11, Thursday

6th Grade:

Please write your third journal entry (half page, hand-written). I would like you to draw me a personal "character arc" where you identify the following points: 1) What were you like before the big event? 2) What big event happened to change you? 3) What were you like after the big event?

Also, please remember, you have a vocabulary quiz over the first twenty roots.

9th Grade:

Please finish your poetry work on "The Raven" (only on your specific stanza).

7th Grade:

-Read chapter 3 and prepare for an inclass discussion (spend no more than 25 minutes reading AND preparing for the discussion)
- Vocabulary quiz (which you should be ready for after preparing for our vocabulary games in class today!)

8th Grade:

- Read chapter 2, paying particular attention to how the protagonist is being characterized (and read ACTIVELY, taking notes and marking important passages in your books)
- Make sure to bring in your spiral bound "Reading Journal" for class.

6th Grade: Please read _Old Yeller_ chapter 5, as well as write a one page, journal entry where you identify any ways that you see Travis changing (specifically, has Travis demonstrated any more traits of a "Man"? Or do you think he's acting more like a child?). Do not forget to list specific examples to support WHY you think what you claim.

9th Grade: Please study for your vocabulary quiz and enjoy your weekend! Remember: you have your ten notecard check due tomorrow for your Primary source paper. PLEASE BRING IN THOSE TEN NOTECARDS...

Please read chapter one in and prepare for your vocabulary quiz (1-4).

6th and 9th grade homework due Friday, October 5

6th:

-Read Chapter 3 and write a one page journal entry that identifies and discusses what types of conflicts you have found in this chapter. Rememeber to pay particular attention to your commas! If you have conjunctions, check to be sure that you don't have to use a comma!

9th:

-Study for vocabulary (lists 1-4) to prepare for vocabulary games with your grandparents. (Also bring in list four for a homework check).

-Since you don't have other work, you may want to knock out some primary source cards!

7th and 8th grade homework due Thursday, October 4th

-Read chapter one in _The Hobbit_ and prepare for Vocabulary Jeopardy!

8th Grade:

-Final Paper is due at 8:00 am on Thursday (with all drafts and workshopping papers included), BEFORE you leave on your field trip. Be sure to pick up a homework packet that will give instructions on what is due on Monday, October 8th.
