7th/8th Grade homework due Monday, March 3

7th Grade:

-For those of you who still need to have your complete outline and your introduction paragraph approved, YOU MUST DO SO NOW! Remember, your completed draft (minus a conclusion) is due in my hands THIS THURSDAY... work on writing that THIS WEEKEND!
- Study for your vocabulary and grammar quiz! (Grammar rules: A,B,C) Your vocabuary quiz will be matching.

8th Grade:

- Get your act together! Come to class with your outline complete and filled out on the worksheet that I gave you. Follow directions. Write your introductory paragraph on a computer, double-spaced and PRINT it out! Do not come to class without these things completed without seeing me first, or I will not be pleased.
- You have a vocabulary and a grammar quiz.
- The rough draft of your essay is due THIS THURSDAY... start writing that this weekend!

Please read Sammy Marquis' short story for comments, questions, suggestions and concerns.

6/9th Grade homework due Wed, Feb 27th

6th:
- Read pages 151-188
- Write an organized paragraph with the topic sentences that argues Desperaux is a character who is associated with both the light AND the dark in this novel. Remember, you may hand write this, but proof read it for comma mistakes and proper quotation format.

9th:
- Please read pages 283-300
- Please write one organized paragraph where you come up with a theory on why chapter 92 (the longest chapter by FAR in this novel) is in this text. In other words, what is the function of this chapter? Please create an organized topic sentence and provide one or two quotations as proof of your claim (there is no right or wrong argument, only ones that are stronger or weaker). Create a strong argument!

6/9th grade homework due Monday

6th Grade:

- Define list one words from the new vocabulary list (if you were NOT in class today, be SURE to come by and pick up a new vocabulary list from me)

- Read to page 151 in the text, and pay particular attention to the developing symbols of light and dark...

- For those of you who did not, for whatever reason, turn in your short story (plus old drafts, the illustrations and the worksheet completed), PLEASE DO SO ASAP! (Of course, some of you have been excused until Monday, in which case, I look forward to reading your stories on Monday!)

9th Grade:

- Completed rough draft of story due in class...

- Read to page 283 in Life of Pi, with the intention of deciding why this LONGER chapter exists... take a stab at it!

7/8th Grade Homework Due Friday

- Read to page 263 (ACTIVELY!) Don't be suprised if I check to see that you are reading actively by perusing your book!

- Keep in mind, too, that your essay outlines are due next week (the 28th)

6th:

- Your final draft of your short story is due at the start of class. Please be sure to include your previous drafts behind the final draft, as well as your two illustrations. Be SURE to include your worksheet, filled out completely, to earn all possible points.

- If you did not finish reading to page 113 in class, please do complete the reading.

9th:

- 15 notecards related to your thesis are due in class on Thursday.
- If you did not complete the reading (to page 255) in class, please do so.
- Also, don't forget to be working on your short story AND, for those of you who are reading Adrift, remember that our discussion is about three weeks away!

7th/8th Grade homework due Friday, Feb 8th

7th Grade:

- Your quotation test is Friday. The best way to study is by reviewing the quotations we've discussed at length in class and review the themes/main ideas that we discussed as well. Please come in to tutorials on Thursday if you would like to review together.

8th Grade:

- Please read to page 185 before class (carefully!). I know this is a confusing bit of text, but it is your responsibility to read it carefully and to come see before class with any questions.

6th/9th Grade homework Due Thursday, Feb 7

6th Grade:

- Page one of your short story (as rough a draft as you are comfortable with) is due in class today, typed (double-spaced).

- Define vocabulary words from Sounder chapter 4

9th Grade:

- Define vocabulary words from list 10

- Read to page 177 in the text

- Your three sources for the secondary source paper are due in class. Remember that one source should be a book, one needs to be an article, the third is up to you. I assigned this over a month ago, and very few students have come to speak with me... so I am assuming you are all on track! I hope to see evidence of this on Thursday!
