9/10th Homework due Thursday

Close REading test on "The Metamorphosis." Remeber to revise your sample, close-reading paragraph and bring in the NEW copy as well as the draft. You will be submitting that new paragraph as the fourth essay of your test.

7/8th grade homework due Wed, sept 29th

Vocabulary quiz over unit two words. This quiz will be in a format that requires you to provide the definitions for the words, as well as the parts of speech (either noun, adjective or verb). Several words have more than one usage, and therefore more than one part of speech, so just be sure that whatever definition you give, you provide that part of speech.

8th Grade homework due Friday

Please read (actively, noting the important literary elements as we discussed in class) the tale of Eros and Psyche (pages 91-101). Remember, also, if you have extra time to review your vocabulary note cards one or two times (your quiz will be NEXT wednesday).

9/10th Grade homework due Thursday

Please write a one paragraph essay (roughly 8-15 sentences) where you choose one sentence from section III in _The Metamorphosis_ and close read it for me. Your topic sentence should create an argument that suggests what the overall effect of the sentence is: in other words, why did Kafka write this sentence? What was his purpose? Be sure to write the sentence that you are close reading at the top of your paper, so that I can easily follow your paragraph, and also be sure to actually CLOSE READ your sentence on the physical paper.

Also, please make notecards for our D,E and F words. Your Word Smart should be very helpful to you.

Make 15 notecards for UNIT TWO vocabulary words in _Words, Words, Words_. Please write the word on the font side, and on the backside, please write the following: the definition, the part of speech and a picture that will help you remember this word. I would also like you to include or incorporate your MEMORY trick SOMEWHERE on the vocabluary card.

Please read the following two stories: Pandora (pages 59-62) and Narcissus and Echo (pages 84-90). Mark the important parts (what you feel is important, but no more than one or two things per page).

9/10th Grade homework due Thursday

Please read actively (marking at least three things that require you to write words on the page) per page, pages 29 -- halfway down page 36. You may notice that we are almost finished reading this story, so prepare for a "close reading" test on this work. A week from Thursday, you will be giving three sentences (one from each section of the story), and you will have to both close read them AND connect your close reading to a Magically Real theme that Kafka is using. Please see me if you have any questions about this (Clapton: we practiced this in class today and will practice more before next THursday).

8th Grade homework due Friday

1) Please make vocabulary notecards for UNIT ONE words from your text, _Words, Words, Words_. On the front side of the vocabulary card, you will write THE WORD clearly. On the backside, please include: a. The part of speech (Noun/Adjective/Adverb) as we discussed in class today, b. the definition and c. Draw a picture that reminds you of this word.

2) Review the notecards once or twice before class on Friday (but do not spend more than 35 minutes on this).

1) Review your literary devices (read through the packet you were given today CAREFULLY). Remind yourself of these terms, and please note which ones you don't remember or have questions about.

2) Make vocabulary notecards for the A, B and C words (on one side of the vocabulary card, please write the word. On the back side, please write the part of speech and definiton).

3) Close read the four sentences from _The Metamorphosis_ by noting which literary elements Kafka is using, what important diction he implemented, and what stylistic choices in SYNTAX that he made.

4) Please remember to sign and bring in your honors contract if you would like to take this class for honors credit!!! (ASK ME IF YOU NEED ANOTHER COPY!!!)

Please write the memory tricks that you create IN YOUR BOOK. 2) Please complete the exercises for unit one (pages 4-7). Also, please inform me if this homework is taking you longer than 35 minutes total, as that is not my intention. GO ROCKIES!! :)

Please prepare 15 vocabulary words that reflect the three letters you were assigned in class. You should have five words from each letter, unless there aren't enough words for you to choose. Also, please read _The MEtamorphosis_ (7-the bottom of page 11).
